Sinem TUR/DEU

Call it Gurbetçiler or Deutschländers – the time of guest workers in Germany is far from over, their traces reach right up to the present day. Sinem, an Alevite from Munich, explores these traces in her songs, less as a detective and more as a medium. We hear the great divas, such as Neşe Karaböcek, but also the psych and anadolu rockers of the time, such as Derdiyoklar and Erkin Koray.

Sinem combine Turkish singing with New Wave memories of the 80s. Arabesque rhythms meet minimalist synthesiser basses, electronic sounds and raw guitars. Musically, boundaries are broken down and spaces are created for maximum freedom of movement – on and in front of the stage.
