Fri 24.10., 22:45 These New Puritans 【GB-ENG】

Treibhaus, Concert

The brothers are back: These New Puritans return with their fifth album, Crooked Wing. The album’s sound ranges from brutal to beautiful, cementing TNP’s reputation for visionary music that defies categorization.

The genesis of Crooked Wing began with a field recording of an ancient Greek Orthodox church bell, its resonant strike inspiring the album’s core pitches. This spiritual origin finds its counterpoint in the industrial cacophony surrounding Jack Barnett’s studio, embodying the band’s signature balance between the sublime and the filth. The album’s rich yet restricted sonic palette incorporates organs (an instrument of love and fear), ancient bells, and pitched percussion, all contributing to non-linear song structures.

Their unique, structured approach to composition creates a sound that pushes beauty against brutality, a lullaby with cacophony. The music explores themes of machines, underground worlds, and the fragility of human existence against the clanking of chains and whirring of gears, resulting in their most meditative release to date.
